An armed robbery took place at Kilanerin Post Office and Shop today where staff were threatened, damage to property occurred, and the raiders got away with a small amount of cash.

The drama began at mid-day when three males armed with a gun, pickaxe and sledge, burst into the premises and threatened the staff.

A number of staff were on duty and there was also a number of customers in the shop at the time.

There were no injuries but many were traumatised by the horror that unfolded.

Gardaí are asking for witnesses to come forward and seeking information on a 151 D registered grey Landrover Sport jeep which sped off in the direction of Tinahely.
