An artist’s impression of the proposed dialysis treatment centre to be constructed by B Braun Avitum Ltd at Sinnottstown Lane, Drinagh

AFTER A number of false starts and disappointments, dialysis treatment is set to soon become available locally for patients in Wexford town.

Wexford County Council has approved an application by global provider of dialysis treatment, B. Braun Avitum Group, for a new unit to be based at Sinnotstown Lane.

Permission has been granted for the construction, on a greenfield site, of a 757 square metre single-storey building for use as a renal dialysis clinic.

A detatched 53 square metre single-storey ancillary storage structure and car park are also included in proposals for the development.

In his report, Senior Planner with Wexford County Council, Diarmuid Houston, concluded that the development ‘would provide a much-needed medical facility.’

The unit, set to be situated adjacent to Drinagh Retail Park, will incorporate 14 treatment bays with the capacity to accommodate 35 to 40 patients.

Up to eight medical staff will be employed to administer care.

The significance of having dialysis treatment available locally was highlighted in the passing away last year of one highly-regarded local man who had decided he could no longer endure the travel necessary to continue treatment.
