A FULL report has been requested into works being carried out on the Ardcavan approach road to Wexford town for over a year to date, which are said to be causing havoc for ambulances which need to travel at speed along the main stretch of road.

Visitors and locals alike are currently welcomed to Wexford town as they approach the Ferrybank side of Wexford Bridge by traffic cones and a plethora of road work signs indicating that the left-hand side of the road is blocked off due to works.

Wexford County Council has failed to respond to queries from the Wexford Echo with regard to the exact nature of the works being carried out and their expected date of completion.

Addressing fellow public representatives at a recent meeting of Wexford Borough District Council, former Mayor of Wexford, paramedic and Independent Councillor Ger Carthy spoke of the concerns which had been voiced to him by people residing in the area and using the road on a regular basis.

“To be honest, I said a third lane on the M50 went up quicker,” he said in exasperation.

“I’d like a report on it to know what exactly has been spent on it… when it will be finished… and who’s funding it?” he stated.

New Senior Engineer for Wexford Borough District, Seán Kavanagh, who commenced his role in recent days, said he was seeking a high-level meeting of Council officials to gain clarity on where the project is headed for 2017.
