THE ANNUAL Junk Kouture Fashion Show at Coláiste Bríde showed off plenty of colour and imagination recently with 28 different costumes gracing the catwalk.

The event, which challenges students to create dresses and outfits from recycled materials, was judged by: costume designer Frances White (who has designed costumes for productions in London’s West End); Caroline Jacobsz who has taught art in Australia, London and South Africa; and Kasia O’Leary, a past pupil of the school with experience of the competition.

Each dress was designed by three Transition Year students. The groups designed, made and then choreographed a routine for the modelling student.

Best Team Work awards were presented to: ‘Olorie Masaii’ from 4A, designed by Shantel Waruinge, Tunmise Akinyemi and Natalia Janaszczyk; ‘Edge of Elegance’, from 4B designed by Annalise Crean, Patricia Mazurczak and Lucy O’Leary which also won the Judges Choice award; and ‘Princesa Guevera’ from 4C, designed by Faith Gardener, Patrycja Czerpak and Lystus Ebosele, who also won the Student Choice award.

The best performance award was given to Amy Long who presented the dress ‘Rhythm and Shoes’, which was also designed by Sinead Morrissey and Alex Moorehouse.

The award for the most innovative material went to ‘La Cheveux de Chien’ designed by Kasey Grant Kehoe, Catherine Broaders and Nicole Whelan.
