The Faythe School

AFTER OVER 140 years, the Sisters of St. John of God have decided to transfer trusteeship of their primary school at The Faythe to the Diocese of Ferns.

A diminishing number of Sisters available to act as members or Chairpersons of the Boards of Management of St. John of God schools and a confidence that the St. John of God spirit will live on at the school are cited as two reasons for the congregation’s decision to hand over trusteeship.

Announcing the decision recently, the Sisters paid tribute to the school’s Principal Liam Turner and teaching staff for the high standards they maintain in the school.

Members of the school’s Board of Management and Parents’ Association were also praised for their role in encouraging and facilitating a positive learning environment in the school.

“At this time we would like to thank all former staff members and Sisters of St. John of God who were involved in various different ways in the school over the years.

“We acknowledge their valuable contribution to the field of education,” the Sisters stated.

Richard Devereux handed over the keys of The Faythe School to Mother Philip Barron of the congregation on March 8th 1875.
