A TOTAL sum of €11,642,151 has been allocated for regional and local roads in Co. Wexford in 2017 – an increase of €300,000 on last year’s total figure.
The majority of the allocation is focused on road improvements (€5,935,608) while money has also been set aside for Bridge Rehabilitation (€236,000) and nine areas under Safety Improvement (€163,000).
There are also allowances for Restoration Maintenance (€1,498,609), Discretionary Grant (€2,578,548), Speed Limits (€13,500), Training Grant (€68,000) and Severe Weather (€1,148.886).
Under the Bridge Rehabilitation Works programme, work will be undertaken on seven bridges around the county.
They are: Boleany Bridge, Gorey (€25,000); the bridge at Parkbaun/Tinnock Lower, Gorey (€12,000); Furlongstown Bridge, Taghmon (€69,000); Aughermon Bridge, Wellingtonbridge (€35,000); Kilcarbry Bridge, Enniscorthy (€50,000); Curraduff Bridge, Enniscorthy (€25,000); and Rickardstown, Kilmore (€20,000).
Safety Improvement Works will be carried out at nine different locations.
They are: Crosslaghroe Crossroads, Blackwater (€15,000); Ballinteskin Junction on R733 (€29,000); R742 Kilmuckridge Village (€25,000); four crossroads junction in Caim Village (€10,000); Cushinstown bend on L8057 near N25 (€19,000); junction in Clongeen village (€20,000); junction at Crory, Crossabeg (€15,000); bend at Silversprings, Kilmore Road (€15,000); and R742 Ballyvaldon Crossroads (€15,000).
