Cllr Malcolm Byrne has announced that he is to again seek a nomination to contest the next General Election on behalf of Fianna Fáil.
“If the members of the party are kind enough to nominate me again, I will be deeply honoured to campaign to win that second seat on behalf of the party,” said Cllr Byrne, who was disappointed at not succeeding in last year’s election where ‘vote management’ was identified as a key factor for his loss.
Fianna Fáil members in Wexford were disappointed that despite having over 3,000 votes more than Fine Gael, the party only took one seat and Fine Gael took two.
Cllr Byrne indicated that an election is not generally expected until next year but stated clearly: “I would like to run again and to represent the people of Co. Wexford.”
