An exhibition remembering the days when a national event brought Gorey onto the sporting headlines is being recalled with the ‘On Your Marks’ evening of live performance and nostalgia on Thursday.

Gorey Town and District Park Public Art Programme presents an exhibition that explores the 1964 National Athletics Championships which took place in Gorey Showgrounds.

The exhibition takes place in the changing rooms of Gorey Showgrounds and the exhibit includes archive photography, press archives, text works, drawing, painting and installations and focuses on Gerry Slattery’s gold medal winning 60 yard sprint and Hugh O’Callaghan’s record breaking throw.

Cllr Malcolm Byrne will perform the official opening at 6.45 pm followed by a live performance in Gorey Town Park and everyone is welcome to go along and celebrate this national event.
