People all over New Ross are in shock at the news that Tina Cahill has been charged in connection with the death, in Australia, of her Enniscorthy fiance, David Walsh
FAMILY AND friends of New Ross woman, Tina Cahill (25), are this week trying to come to terms with her arrest over the fatal stabbing of her fiance, David Walsh, in Sydney, Australia.
Ms. Cahill, who is originally from the Three Bullet Gate area of the town, was remanded in custody until April when her case went before a sitting of the local court in the Burwood area of Sydney.
She was originally meant to appear before the magistrates on Sunday night but was too distraught to do so and the court date was changed.
Mr. Walsh (29), from Enniscorthy, died following a fracas at the home he shared with Ms. Cahill in the suburb of Padstow.
According to neighbours a fight broke out between a number of people at the house shortly after midnight on Friday – into Saturday morning.
Mr. Walsh, a father-of-three, and well known in the Enniscorthy area, ended up on the footpath outside the house with a stab wound to the neck and while paramedics treated him at the scene he succumbed to his injuries.
Ms. Cahill was subsequently charged with his murder and a 36 year-old local man was also arrested in connection with the incident, however, he was later released from custody without charge.
Ms. Cahill comes from one of the most respectable families in New Ross and that fact has compounded the shock felt by everyone in the town over what has happened.
It appears that she was out with friends earlier in the evening and later returned to the house with them. They were all accompanied by a 36 year-old man they met that night.
Shortly after they arrived at the house an altercation broke out – the cause of which had yet to be ascertained at the Echo went to press.
During the fracas Mr. Walsh received a stab wound to his neck and ended up outside the house.
The emergency services arrived at the scene and Ms. Cahill and the 36 year-old man were arrested.
