
Wexford’s National Opera House
A HIGHLY-coveted International Opera Award may be on its way to the town, after Wexford Festival Opera received a nomination for Best Festival for the third time.
Wexford is pitted against similarly prestigious global festivals including Festival d’Aix-en-Provence (France), Festival Verdi (Parma), Garsington Opera (UK), Lyon Festival (France) and Spoleto Festival (USA).
Cordelia Chisholm, set and costume designer for Wexford’s 2016 production of Vanessa, also received a nomination in the Best Designer category.
Established in 2012, the International Opera Awards celebrate excellence in opera around the world and attract all leading opera professionals from around the globe.
Winners will be revealed at a gala ceremony taking place in London’s Coliseum on Sunday, May 7th.
By then, Wexford Festival Opera also hopes to have attained Irish Times Irish Theatre Awards in their Best Opera Production and Audience Choice categories.
The critically-acclaimed 2016 productions of Herculanum by Félicien David and Vanessa by Samuel Barber have both been nominated for Best Opera Production in the awards which celebrate the best work in Irish theatre.
Members of the public have already voted for their favourite production from 2016, which they wish to see win this year’s Audience Choice prize.
