A WEXFORD woman was presented with an award at a glitzy ceremony in Carlow at the weekend.

The local Arboretum was celebrating its 40th anniversary in the Woodford Dolmen Hotel and staff member, Charlene McDonough, from Gorey, was presented with the New Employee of the Year award.

She was one of six award recipients at the reception which included some very special guests such as author, Blaise Brosnan, David Walsh, from Netwatch, celebrity gardeners, Diarmuid Gavin and Dermot O’Neill, RTE presenter, Mary Kennedy and horse trainer, Jim Bolger.

Arboretum – Home and Garden Heaven, was set up by Rachel and Frank Doyle and is one of the Ireland’s largest garden centres. It became the first Five Star Garden Centre in the country in 2005 and won Retail Excellence Garden Centre of the Year this year.

The awards were presented by the founder’s sons, Barry and Fergal Doyle, who also work in the business.

They also made a special presentation to their parents on the night and guests were treated to a video collage of memories from the Arboretum’s history.
