A man has died following an incident on Lough Ree today.

It is understood he had been kayaking near Hudson Bay in Co Roscommon when he got into difficulty.

The Coastguard helicopter and local RNLI attended the scene around noon and the man was rushed to Portiuncla Hospital.

He was pronounced dead this evening.
