WALKERS AND runners assemble!

The uplifting nationwide five kilometre Darkness Into Light event for suicide and self-harm crisis charity Pieta House is coming to Wexford this May.

Local fitness enthusiasts, mental health advocates, dignitaries and others gathered at the Riverbank House Hotel recently for the launch of the highly-anticipated event which will carry the theme ‘Wake Up!’.

People of all ages and from all walks of life will join together at 4:15am on Saturday May 6th for the Wexford walk / run, beginning at St. Joseph’s Community Centre, Bishopswater and concluding there just as the sun is rising.

Pieta House offers free counselling to those affected by suicide ideation, those who have been bereaved by suicide and those experiencing self-harm.

Founded in Lucan, County Dublin, in 2006, the charity now operates in locations across the country and is currently expanding its services in Wexford, having taken over from Console in the town last year.

The charity’s Chief Clinical Officer Cindy O’Connor spoke at the recent launch of the significance of Darkness Into Light and of how it has benefited Pieta House and all of those it has helped to date.

Some 5,500 people were supported by the nationwide charity in 2016 alone.
