GARDAÍ ARE hopeful of making arrests following an incident which saw a visitor to the town forced to withdraw cash from an ATM at knife point.

The 30 year-old man had been attending a wedding at The Riverside Park Hotel on Saturday night before the incident took place. He was then set upon and assaulted by two males and forced at knife-point to take cash from a bank machine on Rafter Street at around 1 a.m. on Sunday morning.

Gardaí refused to comment on how much the thieves managed to take from the man, but after they fled the scene, the victim made his way into a local pub and gardaí were alerted.

Speaking yesterday, a garda spokesman was reluctant to provide too many details in relation to the incident, as he said arrests were pending in the matter. “The matter is fully under investigation,” he said. “We are hopeful that arrests will be forthcoming in this case and therefore we don’t want to give away too much, however, the investigation does surround two males.”

Gardaí were hopeful that arrests would be made yesterday (Monday) afternoon.

Gardaí were confident of making arrests yesterday afternoon.
