Members of Wexford Food Family will take part in this year’s Wexford Food & Wine Festival
TASTES TO savour will be on offer right across Wexford town this weekend, as the Wexford Food & Wine Festival makes a welcome return.
With a menu of events ranging from an ale trail boasting the best of local music and beer from Thursday to a rejuvenating swim and breakfast with the inimitable brothers of The Happy Pear on Sunday morning, four days of festivities are set to treat food fans of all ages in the sunny South East town.
The festival is organised by a voluntary committee made up of local people and strives to offer as many free-of-charge initiatives and events as possible.
Its charm attracted a significant 15,000 people to Wexford town in 2016 and may better that again this year, as even more exhibitors will attend.
The fun gets underway from 5pm this Thursday, May 25th, when trade representatives will enjoy a ‘Slice of Wexford’ at the Talbot Hotel’s newly-refurbished Oyster Lane restaurant.
The South Main Ale Trail will be centered around Simon Lambert and Sons, The Sky and The Ground and Bugler Doyles bars and will boast homegrown musical talent and exclusive festival beers throughout the weekend.
The model county town will spring into action on Saturday morning, May 27th, with free open-air food producers markets opening at Selskar and South Main Street at 10am.
Local, regional and Welsh artisan producers will display a wide variety of mouth-watering fresh produce at both locations until 8pm, while fun for all the family will also be on offer.
All those ready to embrace Sunday morning will have a unique opportunity to enjoy a 500 meter or 1,000 meter swim with The Happy Pear duo Dave and Steven Flynn in conjunction with ‘Wexford Masters Open Water Swim Club.’
A swim at Rosslare Strand, followed by breakfast at Wild and Native restaurant, will cost entrants €20 with all proceeds going to benefit the RNLI.
