County Wexford had the best record in dealing with offences for holding a mobile phone while driving
CONVICTIONS WERE issued to almost half of all those who came before County Wexford courts between January 2015 and March 2017 for the offence of driving while holding a mobile phone.
Drivers who held a mobile phone while at the wheel were also, on average, more likely to come before the courts than their counterparts in other counties.
Within the time period of just over two years, some 358 people were listed at Wexford courts charged with the offence.
Of those, 46 per cent were convicted; placing Wexford among the top counties for convictions for the offence.
Gorey and Wexford District Courts, meanwhile, recorded the second-highest level nationwide of licence numbers of those convicted.
Some 85 per of all those in the county convicted for holding a mobile phone while driving had their numbers recorded.
Just 16 per cent of cases in the county for the offence were struck out, as a result of summons not being served.
