FIRST-GENERATION Irish children are among a large cohort who make their way to CBS Primary School, Wexford, each Friday evening, to immerse themselves in the Polish language and culture.

Using a range of books, videos and materials sent from Poland to assist, teachers at Polska Szkola Wexford work to educate children both who came to Ireland from the Eastern European country and who were born in Ireland to Polish parents.

Now five years in operation, the school is one of about 40 across Ireland catering for families who have made Ireland their home and, as such, is a warm reflection of this country’s increasingly diverse population.

Principal Marta Szutkowka-Kiszkiel came to Wexford after making a success of another Polish school in Ireland and has since shared songs, stories, lessons, cultural traditions and much more with children who attend the Polska Szkola on Green Street.
