SUMMER WAS welcomed in style at The Sky & the Ground pub, South Main Street, when the pulsating sounds of the supremely talented Booka Brass Band rang out.

For the venue’s first concert of the year under the stars, the collective, featuring Gorey man David Conway on saxophone, was a perfect choice.

Music fans and friends alike assembled for a chance to hear tracks from Book Brass’ debut album Chilled Milk played live.

With the band influenced by artists as diverse as jazz great Miles Davis and hip-hop icon Kendrick Lemar, a Booka Brass live show is an occasion to savour.

The group’s pieces boast melody, rhythm and energy and, without the need for lyrics, invite listeners to gain a fresh perspective.

That they are, in the main, self-penned, is a credit to the passionate and creative brass musicians from whose psyches they come.
