AN ENNISCORTHY man has been sentenced to life in Swiss prison after he told the courts that he stabbed his wife more than 60 times in a bid to stop her from finding out about a police probe into child sex offences.
Harry Ringwood (50) who is originally from Rectory Road in Enniscorthy, was sentenced to life for the murder of his wife Galina Shevchenko (46) at their home in the Swiss village of Lutry on March 23 of 2015.
The court heard that Ms Shevchenko was unaware that her husband was being investigated for child sex offences and that Ringwood had stabbed her to prevent her from attending an interview at the local police station.
Ringwood had previously been convicted for downloading indecent images of children in 2009 and was being investigated for posing as a 13 year-old boy online in a bid to obtain nude photos of minors.
The court heard that Ringwood used two different blades to stab his wife more than 60 times before attempting to take his own life.
