ALLEGATIONS THAT Dublin City Council had either bought or leased properties in Co. Wexford, especially around the Riverchapel area, in order to move some of their tenants, particularly troublesome ones, into the area, are without foundation.

The matter had been alleged at public meetings and was even raised at a meeting of Gorey Town Council in the past.

Cllr. Malcolm Byrne pursued the matter through his friend and Fianna Fáil colleague on the City Council, Cllr. Paul McAuliffe.

At the December meeting of Dublin City Council, Cllr. McAuliffe tabled the following question to the City Manager;

“To ask the Manager to state if the City Council has in the past three years arranged, provided or facilitated accommodation for people to live in the County of Wexford. Does the City Council own or lease any properties in this county?”

The City Manager responded;

“The City Council does not own or lease any properties in Wexford. The City Council has not arranged or assisted in relocating people to Wexford.”

The City Manager stated that if the councillor has other information to provide on any specific instance, to contact him and he will try and be of further assistance.

Cllr. Byrne said that if people have information that this is not the case, he will be happy to forward it, in confidence, to Dublin City Council, but he feels it appears as if the City Council has not been relocating tenants to Wexford.

Anyone originally from Dublin who moved to Wexford and who went on the Wexford County Council housing list will be treated in the same way as a local applicant will be and will have to take their place in the queue.
