Gorey has received a vote of confidence in the retail trade with a multi-million euro investment in a new store by Lidl Ireland opening its doors to customers on the Arklow Road.

At almost 30,000 square feet and eight metres high, Gorey is the largest Lidl store in Ireland, the aisles are 27cm wider for a more comfortable shopping experience, and the official opening was performed by Wexford native and international rugby star, Gordon D’Arcy.

Described as it’s very first “new concept” store, it is the first of its kind to be built in the country, and the latest opening will see the store team grow to 27.

Speaking about the launch of Lidl’s ‘new concept’ store, Niall Murray, Regional Director, Lidl Ireland, said: “Having recently celebrated our fifteenth birthday here in Ireland, it’s exciting for us to be celebrating another milestone so soon with the launch of our very first ‘new concept’ store.”

Lidl first opened its store in Gorey on the same site as the new state-of-the-art building on the Arklow Road in August 2004, and temporarily operated from the old Tesco building on the Courtown Road, for the past six months while the new store was under construction.

The completion of the Gorey store brings the total number of Lidl stores in Ireland to 143 and the number of employees to over 3,800.
