Gardaí have said they have identified an attempted software breach on their computer systems.

It is understood a malware threat was identified last week.

The so-called zero day malware threat was identified last Thursday on one of the Gardaí’s IT systems.

In a statement Gardaí said once the attempted breach was identified they implemented heightened security and standard protocols were enforced across all of their systems.

The Computer Crime Unit at the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation are investigating the source of the incident.

However Gardaí are moving to reassure members of the public that their data was not compromised in the incident.
